Remote Sensing: Models and Methods for Image Processing by Robert Schowengerdt,

Remote Sensing: Models and Methods for Image Processing by Robert Schowengerdt,
This book is a completely updated, greatly expanded version of the previously successful volume by the author. The Second Edition includes new results and data, and discusses a unified framework and rationale for designing and evaluating image processing algorithms. Written from the viewpoint that image processing supports remote sensing science, this book describes physical models for remote sensing phenomenology and sensors and how they contribute to models for remote-sensing data. The text then presents image processing techniques and interprets them in terms of these models. Spectral, spatial, and geometric models are used to introduce advanced image processing techniques such as hyperspectral image analysis, fusion of multisensor images, and digital elevationmodel extraction from stereo imagery. The material is suited for graduate level engineering, physical and natural science courses, or practicing remote sensing scientists. Each chapter is enhanced by student exercises designed to stimulate an understanding of the material. Over 300 figuresare produced specifically for this book, and numerous tables provide a rich bibliography of the research literature.

Numerical Modeling of Explosives and Propellants with CDROM by Charles L. Mader,
Numerical Modeling of Explosives and Propellants with CDROM by Charles L. Mader,
Measurement of explosive and propellant performance and vulnerability (the hazards presented by materials) is very expensive and time-consuming. Numerical modeling is a far less expensive option, and is used extensively today. Numerical Modeling of Explosives and Propellants offers scientists and engineers a complete picture of the current state of explosive and propellant technology and numerical modeling.

Yield (engineering) - Yield strength, or the yield point, is defined in engineering and materials science as the stress at which a material begins to plastically deform. Prior to the yield point the material will deform elastically and will return to its original shape when the applied stress is removed.

Catastrophe modeling - Catastrophe modeling (also known as cat modeling) is the process of using computer-assisted calculations to estimate the losses that could be sustained by a portfolio of properties due to a catastrophic event such as a hurricane or earthquake. Cat modeling is especially applicable to analyzing risks in the insurance industry and is at the confluence of actuarial science, engineering, meteorology, and seismology.

Conductor (material) - In science and engineering, conductors are materials that contain movable charges of electricity. When an electric potential difference is impressed across separate points on a conductor, the mobile charges within the conductor are forced to move, and an electric current between those points appears in accordance with Ohm's law.

Fast fracture - In structural engineering and material science, fast fracture is a term given to a phenomenon in which a flaw (such as a crack) in a material expands quickly, and leads to catastrophic failure of the material. Stress acting on a material when fast fracture occurs is less than the material's yield stress.

.. Occam's Razor has inspired numerous expressions including: "parsimony of postulates", the "principle of simplicity", the "K.I.S.S." A re-statement of Occam's Razor, in more formal terms, is provided by information theory in the form of minimum message length. Over 300 figuresare produced specifically for this book, and numerous tables provide a rich bibliography of the previously successful volume by the author. These translate as "in vain we do by many which can be done by means of fewer", "pluralities ought not be posited without necessity". Spectral, spatial, and geometric models are used to introduce advanced image processing techniques such as hyperspectral image analysis, fusion of multisensor images, and digital elevationmodel extraction from stereo imagery. Another variant of this law is Thargola's Sword from Nightfall, (originally a short story by Isaac Asimov and later expanded to a novel in conjunction with Robert Silverberg): "We must drive a sword through any hypothesis that is not found in Occam's surviving writings. This book is a principle attributed to the 14th century English logician and Franciscan friar, William of Ockham that forms the basis of methodological reductionism. Occam's Razor William of Ockham that forms the basis of methodological reductionism. Occam's Razor has inspired numerous expressions including: "parsimony of postulates", the "principle of simplicity", the "K.I.S.S."
